Flower Guide to Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemums (otherwise known as mums) are a florist staple flower, they are cost effective and available in a wide range of colours, shapes and sizes.
The multi-headed flower varieties are excellent as filler flowers, as well as the single head varieties provide mass and emphasis.
Types of Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemums are split into two main groups, multi headed spray and single headed varieties. There are chrysanthemum single or bloom (sgl), spray and santini.
Bloom chrysanthemums can be further split into six categories: balloon / pompon, double, incurve, mop head, single and spider.
Caring for Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemums are long lasting, cost effective and easy to care for.
In general, remove all foliage below the waterline, cut with a sharp knife or scissors and hydrate in a solution of water with flower food for a couple of hours before storage or usage. The bottom portion of some mum stems can be woody, make sure that you cut the stems above this woody tissue in order to facilitate water uptake.
